The baptismal font was
moved to the chapel during the restoration of 1975
in keeping with the spirit of the Second Vatican Council.
The Cathedral of 1851 had a
Cavaille-Coll organ from France but, after numerous additions and
repairs, it was replaced in
1950 by a three-manual Miller Pipe Organ.
Since the Miller Pipe Organ was installed the Cathedral, in 2004, replaced that organ with a 4,500 pipe organ designed by the Holtkamp Organ Company of Cleveland, Ohio. Weighing more then 28,000 pounds and towering some 51 feet above the Cathedral choir loft, with pipes range in size from a few inches to more then 32 feet in hight.

The 1975 restoration by architects Kessels-Diboll-Kessels of New Orleans at a cost of almost $1 million resulted in the lightening and brightening of the walls and ceilings and restoring the frescoes and other paintings.

Chandeliers were installed throughout the nave, certain portions of the roof were replaced and a second roof was added to protect the organ and the fresco of Christ giving the staff of authority to Peter.
Our Lady of Deliverance depicts a soul in purgatory and a soul leaving purgatory
being crowned by the Child Jesus. This statue is found in the right most
entrance of the Cathedral near the gift shop.
