Independence Day Holiday Schedule

The Cathedral, Parish Office, and Gift Shop will be closed for the  Holiday weekend beginning July 4. However, Masses and reconciliation will be celebrated as usual. The schedule will be:

  • Thursday, July 4 and Friday, July 5: the Cathedral will open at 11:15  a.m. for confessions followed by Mass at 12:05 p.m. It will close after Mass on both days.
  • Saturday, July 6:  the Cathedral will open at 4:15 p.m. for confessions, followed by Vigil Mass at 5:00 p.m. It will close after Mass.
  • Sunday, July 7: the Cathedral will celebrate the 9:00 and 11:00 a.m. Masses and will close after the 11:00 Mass.

Everything will reopen with the usual hours on Monday, July 8. 

Blessing Louisiana and the Mighty River

There will be a Holy Eucharist procession by boat starting at 8 am on Wednesday, August 14 in Baton Rouge. Bishop Michal Duca will celebrate Mass at the Cathedral of St. Joseph followed by a procession to the Mississippi River. A 130 mile procession and blessing will commence. There will be several stops including an arrival in Convent, LA for an all-night adoration at St. Michael Church. The boat will resume it’s journey Thursday, August 15 and will arrive in New Orleans Riverwalk at 5:00 pm. There will be a Great Benediction on the levee in front of Jackson Square followed by a procession into St. Louis Cathedral for a final blessing and a Solemn Mass of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary by Archbishop Gregory Aymond. The festivities will conclude with a celebration in Jackson Square at 7:30 pm. All are encouraged to Come Down to the River for this historic event.
